Kangana Ranaut’s speech video clipped, falsely shared as her accepting defeat

A video clip of Bollywood actress and BJP candidate for Mandi Lok Sabha Kangana Ranaut is viral on social media. It shows her saying,”ये जो भीड़ कंगना को देखने के लिए उमड़ती है, वो वोट नहीं देगी. वो मात्र ये देखने के लिए आती हैं की वह चीज़ क्या हैं… क्या वह हुस्न परी आयी हैं मुंबई से, इन्होंने जो लेके आयी हैं….तो वह इस चीज़ को देखने के लिए आते हैं. मैं कोई चीज़ नहीं हूँ.” (Translation: “This crowd that’s eager to see Kangana will not vote for her. They merely come to see what kind of “cheez” (object) she is… too see who is this “husn-pari” (beautiful fairy) that they have brought from Mumbai… So they come to see this “cheez” (object). But I am not an object”.)

Users shared the clip claiming that Ranaut had already accepted defeat in the elections and admitted that people attended her meetings only to see her, and would not vote for her.

An X (formerly Twitter) user, @SyedSho43211335 shared the 20-second clip with the caption, “Kangana accepts defeat.. said this crowd that comes to see me will not vote for me.”

Fact Check

We broke down the 20-second viral video into key frames using Invid software and then reverse-searched one of the images on Google. This led us to a two-minute-long video included in a report by Republic Bharat. The report is titled “वो चीज या हुस्न परी नहीं, अपनी बहन को देखने आते…कांग्रेस के ‘हसीन परी’ वाले बयान पर कंगना का पलटवार” (Translation: ”They come to see their own sister, not an ‘object’ or a ‘fairy’…Kangana’s response to Congress’ ‘beautiful fairy’ remark”).

In the extended video, Kangana Ranaut is referring to Congress leader, Pratibha Singh’s comment and says, “प्रतिभाजी, जिनको मैं अपनी माता स्वरुप समझती हूँ, उन्होंने भी कल एक जगह कहा कि “ये जो भीड़ कंगना को देखने ने के लिए उमड़ती हैं, वह वोट नहीं देगी. वह मात्र ये देखने को आती हैं कि वह चीज़ क्या हैं, क्या वह हुस्न परी आयी हैं जो मुंबई से, इन्होने जो लेके आयी हैं, तो वह इस चीज़ को देखने के लिए आते हैं. ”

[Translation: “Pratibhaji, whom I consider as my own mother, stated somewhere yesterday that, “This crowd that’s eager to see Kangana will not vote for her. They merely come to see what kind of “cheez” (object) she is… too see who is this “husn-pari” (beautiful fairy) that they have brought from Mumbai… So they come to see this “cheez” (object).”]

The viral clip has been edited from this part of the video. The bold words in the above paragraph have been omitted in the viral clip.

Further, we found that at the 0:23 mark in the extended video, Kangana objected to the remarks made by the Congress leader. What she said can be translated to, “I am not an object. I am a woman. I am also made of flesh and blood just like my sisters. I also used to play in the alleys of Himachal just like our daughters do now.” Referring to the crowd, she says, “My sisters do not come to see an “object”, they come to see their sister. My brothers do not come to see an “object” or a “husn-pari”. They come here to see the daughter of Himachal. I can firmly say that almost 95% of the people here haven’t even seen my films but they are proud of their daughter, they come here to see their daughter, not some “object” or “husn-pari”…”

Media outlets like ETV Bharat, ABP News, and TV 9 Punjab-HImachal Pradesh- J&K also reported on this incident.

In a Times Now video report, titled, ‘Pratibha Singh’s ‘Haseen Pari’ Slur At Kangana Ranaut, Why Congress Can’t Stop Sexist Remarks?’, Singh says at the 1:17 mark, “People only go to see Kangana Ranaut but they won’t be converted into votes”.

To sum up, a clipped video of BJP candidate Kangana Ranaut is going viral on social media. Users have shared the clip and falsely claimed that Ranaut has accepted defeat in the Lok Sabha elections and admitted that people only came to see her but would not vote for her. However, our fact check revealed that Ranaut was referring to Congress leader Pratibha Singh’s comment and criticized Singh for her controversial remarks.
