The ongoing monsoons have caused havoc across the country. Several cities have flooded due to heavy rainfall and as per the July 23 forecast by India Meteorological Department, heavy or extremely heavy rainfalls can be witnessed in multiple states. The death toll in Maharashtra’s Raigad district rose to 36 due to landslides caused by incessant rainfall. Mumbai is also experiencing a heavy downpour. Several trains were cancelled or diverted for safety.

On July 18, News18 Kannada posted an image of coats inside a store filled with muddy water. The caption of the image read, “120mm of rain in Mumbai in the last 12 hours. Heavy rains are expected in two days, the Met Department said.”

The image has also been shared on Twitter with the claim it’s from Mumbai. (1,2,3)

Similarly, a Facebook user also posted the image in question with the same claim.

Old image from Bihar

Alt News performed a reverse image search and found that the image is three years old and is from Patna, Bihar.

According to a September 2019 report by Nai Dunia the image is from a Raymond showroom located at Hathwa Market. The store was flooded after the city received 158 mm of rain in the span of 24 hours.

YouTube channels Live Cities Media Private Limited and NMF News showed other images from the showroom.

ANI uploaded a video of dewatering machines trying to clear waterlogging in Patna’s SK Puri area.

News18 Kannada posted an image from the 2019 monsoons in Patna while reporting the 2021 monsoon in Mumbai.
