An interview of Union Home Minister Amit Shah with Network18 group editor-in-chief Rahul Joshi, where Shah makes controversial statements criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi over Pakistan successfully targeting locations in India during the recent conflict, after the government launched Operation Sindoor, is viral. In the interview, Shah criticises PM Modi and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval for the crisis and says that it is time Narendra Modi resigned as prime minister and passed the baton of leadership to someone else.
In the video, he says: “Maine Modi ji ke liye bahut mushkil waqt dekhe hai. Bahut sankat aaye hai. Lekin jo ab samay aaya hai, aisa pehle kabhi nahi hua. Doval ji ne jo Operation Sindoor ka poora yojna diya tha, usme humse bahut badi bhool ho gayi hai. Sabse badi bhool yahi thi, ki humne Pakistan ko chhota samajh liya tha – socha tha, apne Rafael udayenge, Pakistan kuch nahi karega. Lekin jab Colonel Sofia ki press conference suni, toh asleeyat samne aa gayi. Pakistan ne 26 se zyada jagah par missile barsaa diye. Abhi tak vishwas nahi aa raha ki ye kaise ho gaya. Kaha gaya woh Modi ji ka Bharat Vikas? Ab toh ek hi baat samajh aa rahi hai, Modi ji – ab bas. Istifa dijiye, aur ghar jaiye. BJP ki netritwa, ab naye kisi leader ke paas jana chahiye. Ye sab mere dil ki baat hai, aur ab poori janta bhi keh rahi hai. Bas, bahut ho gaya.”
(Translation: “I have seen challenging times for Modi ji. Many crises have come. But what happened now is unprecedented. There was a major miss in the plan that Doval ji made for Operation Sindoor. We underestimated Pakistan; we thought we would send up our Rafales, and Pakistan would do nothing. But when I heard Colonel Sofia’s press conference, the reality was clear. Pakistan rained missiles on more than 26 locations. I still cannot believe how this happened. Where is that “Bharat Vikas” of Modi ji that was promised? Now there is only one thing left to say. Modi ji — enough. Resign, and go home. The leadership of the BJP should now go to someone new. This is what my heart says, and now the public is also echoing the same. Enough is enough.”)

Fact Check
From the beginning, we were unsure of the authenticity of the video because it seemed highly unlikely for Home Minister Amit Shah to suggest in a TV interview that his party, the BJP, should be voted out of power and that Modi should resign. The government has also reiterated that it was able to contain much of the damage from Pakistan’s attacks.
When we looked at the clip carefully, we noticed that in the segment where Shah speaks, there are some irregularities in the lip and head movements. So we tried looking for the full interview from which the shorter clip has been taken. We found the 36-minute long interview uploaded on Firstpost’s YouTube channel on September 19, 2025. We watched the whole clip carefully and found that the part where the host, Rahul Joshi, introduces himself has been taken from the original interview directly. However, whatever Amit Shah appears to be saying in the viral clip are very different from what he says in the interview.
We went through the full interview to check if Amit Shah made the controversial statements criticising PM Modi and NSA Ajit Doval over the conflict with Pakistan following Operation Sindoor but found none. We also noticed a slight difference in Shah’s voice and Hindi grammar when we compared the original interview with the viral clip. Comparison below:
This, coupled with the fact that Shah’s lip and head movements appear distorted in the viral clip, suggests that the clip is digitally altered. The original interview appears to be digitally manipulated using artificial intelligence.
In conclusion, the viral clip showing Home Minister Amit Shah ‘admitting’ that Pakistani missiles hit several locations in India during Operation Sindoor, and saying that Prime Minister Modi should resign, is digitally manipulated. In the September 19 interview with Rahul Joshi, the Home Minister made no such remarks.
