Deepfake alert: Videos of Ravish Kumar, Shiv Aroor and Palki Sharma reporting on NDA leaders’ Pak overtures viral

A video circulating online shows journalist Ravish Kumar accusing Bihar’s National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders of funding Pakistan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) through offshore accounts to propagate a pro-India stand around Operation Sindoor.

Fact Check

Upon closer observation, we noticed several anomalies in the viral video. One noticeable issue is Kumar’s voice, which has a monotonous pitch without any modulation — a common characteristic of AI-generated videos. Additionally, there are instances of mispronunciation. For example, at the 0:26 mark, Kumar incorrectly pronounces the Hindi word ‘नेता’ as ‘नेताहं.’

We found the original video on the official YouTube page Ravish Kumar Official. No mention of the NDA’s connection with the PTI was mentioned by Kumar at any point during the video.

Journalist Vrinda Sharma, who works for Ravish Kumar’s YouTube page, also refuted the viral video in an X post, calling it ‘completely fake’. Her post was a response to a now-deleted tweet containing the same video.

To sum up, a deepfake video of Ravish Kumar is viral on social media where he is heard claiming that NDA leaders in Bihar funded Pakistan’s PTI to propagate a pro-India stand surrounding Operation Sindoor.

Similar Digitally Altered Videos of Palki Sharma and Shiv Aroor

Two more videos — one of journalist Palki Sharma and one of NDTV managing editor Shiv Aroor — are also viral wherein they are heard making similar claims of the NDA in Bihar channeling money to Pakistan’s PTI.

Akin to the video of Ravish Kumar, the two viral clips circulating online also have tell-tale sigs of AI manipulation.  A closer look at the clips shows the presenters’ eyes shift in repetitive loops, and the speech has the flat, uniform cadence typical of AI-generated voiceovers.

We also cross-checked the claim by going through Firstpost and NDTV’s YouTube channels, and the social media accounts of Palki Sharma and Shiv Aroor. We did not find any such report or alleged investigation into Bihar NDA leaders’ funding Pakistan’s PTI. It can thus be conclusively stated that the videos are digitally manufactured using AI.
