A few videos of Tamil Nadu’s Vellore Institute of Technology campus are being shared on social media in which a group of people are seen entering the college campus in a car carrying guns. The video also shows people running here and there. It has been claimed that there was a terrorist attack at this institute.

Many other users also claimed that a terrorist attack was reported on the campus.

The video was also posted on Facebook with the same claim.

What’s the Truth?

To find out the truth behind the alleged videos, we performed a keyword search on Google with terms ‘VIT Vellore attack’. We found a report by The Hindu dated March 2, 2025. The article also contains a screenshot from the viral video. In reference to the video, the media outlet reported that the National Security Guard (NSG) had conducted a mock drill on March 2 at the VIT campus.

Speaking to The Hindu, superintendent of police N Mathivanan stated that the NSG along with special task force commandos of the Tamil Nadu Police and the district police had conducted a three-hour mock drill in the Silver Jubilee Tower building.

A YouTube channel named Vellore Fort City also posted a video of the mock drill stating that it actually showed a training session by NSG commandos.

To sum up, the people who entered the VIT campus with guns were not terrorists, but commandos who had gone there to conduct a mock drill.
