A disturbing video of a man brutally thrashing a woman has been shared with a narrative that this is a teacher from RMVM school (Valsad, Gujarat) beating his student. The video was posted by a Facebook user with a message, “आप के whatsapp पे जितने भी नंबर एवं ग्रुप हैं एक भी छूटने नही चाहिए, ये वीडियो सबको भेजिए ये वलसाड के RM VM SCHOOL का टीचर है इसको इतना शेयर करो की ये टीचर और स्कूल दोनों बंद हो जाए । वीडियो वायरल होने से काफी फ़र्क पड़ता है ओर कार्यवाही होती है जिसे दया न आये वो अपना मुंह (टाइपिंग) बंद रखे। (None of your WhatsApp contacts and groups should be left behind. Send this video to everyone and make it viral. This teacher is from RM VM School. Share this video to such an extent that the teacher and school both are shut. -translated)”. Due to the violent nature of the video, Alt News is not posting it here.

At the time of writing of this article, at least two more individuals have shared this video with an identical caption on Facebook.

Fact-check

Alt News found that this video went viral in 2018 and was subsequently reported by several media outlets. The man in the video was identified by the media as Rohit Tomar, son of Delhi sub-inspector Ashok Tomar. Hindustan Times reported, “The son of a Delhi policeman has been arrested after he was seen slapping and kicking a woman and knocking her to the ground in a disturbing video. The arrest was reported soon after Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh tweeted that he had ordered action.”

According to a report published by NDTV, the incident took place at a call centre located in Uttam Nagar, Delhi. “The accused in the thrashing of a woman in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar last week were taken on Tuesday to the place where the incident, a video of which went viral on social media, took place and recreated the sequence of events, police said.”, stated the report.

R.M & V.M Desai Vidhyadham school in Valsad has been constantly targeted on social media, with videos showing violence towards children, attributed to some unknown teacher associated with the school. Recently, Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani had shared one such video of child abuse from Syria with the same false narrative targeting the school. In July 2018, a child beating video from Egypt was shared as atrocities perpetrated on students by a teacher from RMVM school.
