A horrifying video of woman tied to a tree by a rope, and lashed in full public view has been shared on social media. Among those who have shared it on Twitter include author Tarek Fatah. Alt News is not posting the video owing to its graphic nature.

Incident of 2018
Alt News found that the incident had taken place in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh in March 2018. According to news reports, the woman seen in the video was beaten up by her husband for allegedly having eloped with another man, on the order of the village panchayat.
The video had gone viral last year shortly after the incident had occurred, following which the husband of the woman had been arrested along with a former head of the panchayat.
