Fact Check
On doing a keyword search, we found several articles from August 2017 containing screenshots from the viral video. According to a Hindustan Times article dated August 31, 2017, the video was shot at Umaid Hospital in Jodhpur where gynaecologist Ashok Nainwal was arguing with anaesthetist Mathura Lal Tak while operating on a patient. According to the report, the spat triggered allegations that the patient, identified as Anita, lost her newborn because of medical negligence. The matter had subsequently reached the Rajasthan High Court.
The secretary of the Rajasthan Legal Services Authority told the court that a woman named Naseem Bano, who was on the operating table when the video was shot, delivered a healthy girl. Anita was also in the operating theatre for a C-section and her newborn, also a girl, had died after birth. The official had said that a detailed inquiry at the time would reveal if the two doctors’ row had a role in the infant’s death.
According to an Indian Express article dated August 31, 2017, hospital superintendent Dr Ranjana Desai had stated that the death of the newborn baby was not linked to the arguments of the doctors.
Other media outlets, including NDTV, BBC, The Hindu, Deccan Herald, Scroll.in, and news agency ANI covered this incident in August 2017.
Hence a video of two doctors quarreling and using filthy language inside the operating theatre during a surgery shot at the Umaid Hospital in Jodhpur has been circulated with the claim that the video is recent by several social media users. Journalist Tarek Fatah falsely claimed that the video was shot in Pakistan while Journalist Mamta Tripathi claimed that the video was shot at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh.
