A video showing men, women and young boys carrying lathis and spears marching somewhere is circulating on social media. It is accompanied by claims that illegal Bangladeshi immigrants have assembled in Goalpara, Assam, to launch an attack on police and local administration.

X handle Incognito (@Incognito_qfs), shared the video on August 5, 2025, claiming that it captured “illegal Bangladeshis” planning to attack Indian officials in Assam. (Archive)

The post has garnered around 2.5 Lakh views.

Kreately Media (@KreatelyMedia) amplified the same video on X with a similar claim. (Archive)

BJP-supporting X handle Amitabh Chaudhary (@MithilaWaala), too, shared the video on X, urging the chief minister of Assam to take precaution against an attack by the “illegals Bangladeshi(s)”. He also stated such attackers must be “neutralised”. (Archive)

It is worth noting that all the above-mentioned X accounts, Incognito, Kreately Media, and Amitabh Chaudhary have been regularly found disseminating misinformation and pro-BJP propaganda. Their claims have been repeatedly debunked by Alt News.

Several other social media users have shared the video and made similar claims.

Fact Check

Breaking the video into several keyframes, we performed a reverse image search on a few of them. This led us to a YouTube video uploaded on July 1, 2025, by a local Bangladeshi media outlet, Channel i News. The caption written in Bengali can be roughly translated as, “At least 40 injured in bloody clash between two BNP factions in Austagram; looting and arson reported.”

From the 0:35 minute mark, frames identical to those seen in the viral video can be seen.

Further investigation led us to a Facebook post by another local Bangladeshi news outlet, Jagonews24. The post identified the location of the incident as Kishoreganj district of Bangladesh.

Taking a cue from this, we conducted a keyword search, which led us to several news articles by prominent Bangladeshi media outlets corroborating the incident and confirming its location and context.

According to Dhaka Mail, the incident occurred on July 1, 2025, at Abdullahpur in the Khairpur-Abdullahpur Union of Austagram Upazila in Kishoreganj district of Bangladesh. The violent clash left at least 40 people injured. Reports also indicate that the confrontation involved incidents of arson, looting, and vandalism.

Citing police and local sources, Ajker Patrika reports that the violence stemmed from a long-standing family feud between two rival factions of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), one led by Kamal Pasha, president of Abdullahpur Union BNP, and the other by Farhad Ahmed, joint convener of Kishoreganj District Volunteer Party.

On July 1, 2025, people from Kamal Pasha’s faction ambushed Farhad Ahmed’s house (Baghabari), leading to a violent clash between the two factions. During this conflict, incidents of vandalism, looting, and arson were reported.

The officer-in-charge of Austagram police station, Md. Ruhul Amin, confirmed the incident to local media outlets.

So, to sum up, the video depicting a large group of people marching with spears is from a political clash in Kishoreganj district of Bangladesh. Claims suggesting that the video shows “illegal Bangladeshis” mobilizing to attack police and officials in Goalpur, Assam, are false and misleading.
