Old video of Nancy Pelosi misattributed to Donald Trump’s recent Presidential victory

A 4-second video clip of Nancy Pelosi, the American politician, has gone viral on social media. In the video, Pelosi, dressed in a striking red coat adorned with a gold brooch, says, “There is no point in saying good morning because it certainly is not one.” Social media users have claimed the clip shows her reaction to Donald Trump’s recent presidential victory in 2024.

After Donald Trump’s recent victory in the Presidential election in 2024, X (formerly Twitter) user, a journalist and a political analyst, Eduardo Menoni (@eduardomenoni) tweeted this video clip with a caption that read, “Communist Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi this morning after Donald Trump’s victory: “There is no point in saying good morning because it certainly isn’t good morning.” Pelosi’s eyes looked swollen from crying over Donald Trump’s victory. ” 

The tweet has garnered around 53,000 views and 820 retweets.

Another X account Breakingnews (@janetking851241) has quote tweeted the same claim.

Fact Check

A closer examination of the video reveals that it prominently features a “Breaking News” banner stating: “Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade.” Taking this clue, we conducted a keyword search, leading us to the full video on YouTube. The original video, uploaded on June 24, 2022, shows Pelosi addressing a press conference. The clip has been taken out of context; Pelosi’s remarks were in response to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

In the press conference, Pelosi opened her remarks with:
“There is no point in saying good morning because it certainly is not one. This morning, the radical Supreme Court is eviscerating Americans’ rights and endangering their health and safety.”

This was part of her statement condemning the Court’s ruling, which stripped away the federal constitutional right to abortion.

Further corroboration comes from other news outlets. For instance, The Deadline, reported on June 24, 2022 that Pelosi criticized the Supreme Court’s decision, calling it “cruel, outrageous, and heart-wrenching”, while stating, “There’s no point in saying good morning, because it certainly is not one,”

Reuters also highlighted her condemnation of the ruling, attributing it to a “Republican-controlled Supreme Court” achieving their party’s “dark and extreme goal of ripping away women’s right to make their own reproductive health decisions.”

Additionally, the official MSNBC X (formerly Twitter) account tweeted the same video on June 24, 2022, with the caption, “American women today have less freedom than their mothers”: Speaker Pelosi responds to Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade.“

To sum up, the viral video has been deceptively clipped and falsely linked to Donald Trump’s recent presidential victory. In reality, the footage is from a 2022 press conference where Pelosi criticized the Supreme Court’s ruling on Roe v. Wade.
