A set of photographs of a man who seems to be sexually harassing a girl is widely circulating on social media with the claim that the incident took place in a madrasa. The Hindi caption leads people to assume that the video is from India.
Several users have also opined that madrasas should be closed as the institutions are breeding grounds for such behaviour.
The pictures are massively viral on Facebook with the same claim.
Bangladeshi short film
A reverse image search on Yandex took us to several YouTube links.
One of these videos was uploaded by Anaa Bala, a verified YouTube channel from Bangladesh. The video is described as a Bangla short film. Its duration is 10 minutes and was uploaded on September 21, 2020. The film has more than 2 lakh views. The viral scenes appear 7:20 minutes into the clip.
The short film was shared by a Facebook name ‘আমি রিমা‘ on March 11, 2019 and it drew over 1 lakh views.
The past few weeks have witnessed a surge in misinformation targeting madrasas. Old videos of sexual abuse in Pakistan were falsely linked to madrasas in India. Another clip from Bangladesh was shared with the same claim.
