No action has been initiated against UP BJP leader and ex-MLA Raghavendra Pratap Singh who promised job to Hindu men if they could ‘bring’ 10 Muslim girls. This, the former Dumariyaganj legislator said, was needed to avenge the alleged conversion of two local Hindu women.
Delivering a speech at a public meeting at Dhankharpur in Siddharthnagar district on October 16, Singh said, “I am telling you… In exchange for two (Hindu girls), people bring at least ten Muslim girls… How many young men are ready? Raise your hands… Less than ten is not acceptable. I will conduct your marriages… I am announcing that whoever brings them, I will ensure you have a job that pays well.”

Singh is also the state in-charge of the Hindu Yuva Vahini (HYV), a Hindutva outfit founded by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath in 2002. The HYV, which has a history of violence and vigilantism, was disbanded in 2022. However, the group is seemingly still active in certain pockets.
Singh expressed anguish at the two cases of conversion in Dhankarpur village, and proclaimed that in lieu of the two Hindu women who had been converted, 10 Muslim women would be forced to convert. “These women will be forced to cook beef, will they be able to survive?”, Singh asked. He threatened that those who had run away with the two Hindu girls would be killed.
He also issued a warning to ‘mullahs’ and ‘maulvis’, asking them to inform local Muslims that Hindu would take away and convert 10 Muslim women. Dhankar also threatened that each Muslim’s property and every Muslim household would be searched, and that each Muslim would cry out like a goat.
Singh further announced that if any ‘mullah or maulvi’ was found to be mistreating a Hindu, they (Singh’s followers, supposedly) would reach the location within 40 minutes and handle the situation. Muslims, he added, could be business partners but should not be allowed to get too close to Hindu families. He also used abusive language to describe Muslims and alleged that they always had eyes for female family members.
In response to Singh’s inflammatory remarks, Samajwadi Party MLA from Dumariyaganj Saiyada Khatoon said, “While the government is promoting the slogan ‘beti padhao, beti bachao,” our daughters are being insulted. Repeatedly using offensive language against Muslims is an attack on the secular nature of Dumariyaganj.” In a statement to the BBC, Khatoon asserted that Singh’s controversial remarks were not an isolated incident and repeated attempts to report these issues to law enforcement had been unsuccessful.
She told The Telegraph that she had filed a written complaint to police in this case as well.
Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati, too, strongly criticized Singh’s tirade, calling it “highly condemnable and unconstitutional.” She said such language not only spread hatred but also encouraged people to take law into their own hands. Urging the government to take strict action, she also remarked that attempts to spread animosity in society in the name of issues like religious conversion and ‘Love Jihad’ posed a serious threat to law and order.
Responding to the outrage against him, Singh defended his own remarks. He said, “Dhankarpur in Dumariyaganj is a sensitive village. The day-to-day terror by Muslims affects the lives of Hindus there. Within a week, two Hindu girls were abducted and converted to Islam. In this context, when I learned that Hindus there had been beaten by Muslims, I went and calmed the Hindus. I said that if anyone uses force — if they have taken two Hindu girls — then you should take 10 Muslim girls in return.
Alt News contacted Dumariyaganj police station to inquire about any recent case of religious conversions in the area. The official who spoke to us said he was not aware of any such incident.
Alt News also reached out to the office of the superintendent of police, Siddharthnagar district, to enquire about police action against Singh, if any. An officer heard our query and promised a call back before abruptly disconnecting the call. This article will be updated if we get a statement from them.
