Fact Check

On breaking down the video into key-frames using the InVid software, and reverse-searching one of those frames on Yandex, we were able to get hold of video news reports from October 2020.

One such video report was by a YouTube news channel called Syria Stream published on October 31, 2020, and the CCTV footage was dated October 30, 2020.

Another news report by a Spanish news agency, Policia Le Revista, carried the video on October 30, 2020, in the context of the earthquake that had struck Turkey and Greece at the time. The video is from a restaurant in the city of Izmir in Turkey.

Hence, the viral video is old and unrelated to the recent earthquake in Turkey and Syria. The video is from the city of Izmir in Turkey during an earthquake on October 30, 2020.
