Image from Bangladesh

Alt News found a tweet by a user who identified that a board in the background in Bangla says “Barisal Engineering College”. Barisal is a city that lies in South-Central Bangladesh. We were able to locate the college on Google Maps.

Moreover, we found a news report by Bangladeshi media outlet Somoy published on April 18, 2021. According to the report, the image was shared by Traffic Sergeant Touhid Tutul of the Barisal Metropolitan Police. We searched for Tutul’s profile.on Facebook and found he had posted the photo on April 17, 2021.

We also found a video report by Bangladeshi news channel DBC News on Tutul’s timeline. According to the report, the man riding the motorcycle is Jiaul Hasan, who is a bank employee. When he couldn’t manage to get an ambulance for his mother Rehana Parveen infected with coronavirus, he tied the oxygen cylinder to himself and took her as a pillion rider after she required to be hospitalised. After travelling 18 kilometres on the motorcycle, she was admitted to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College. Touhid Tutul took this picture in front of the Barisal University campus. Praveen is a school teacher.

A photo of a man ferrying his mother suffering from coronavirus with an oxygen cylinder on a motorcycle was shared with the false claim that it depicts an incident from Bihar.
