A video of a man raising pro-Pakistan slogans while being beaten-up by a mob has gone viral on social media. Twitter user Asfandyar Bhittani, who is based in Pakistan, tweeted the video suggesting that person was Kashmiri and he was being forced to raise “Pakistan Murdabad” slogans.

Author and film-maker Vivek Agnihotri quoted-tweeted the same video shared with a different narrative by a user, @Raghav7286, saying, “India has some serious citizenship issues. God knows who belongs to which country”. At the time of writing, the tweet has been deleted.

@Sisatpk, a verified Twitter handle of Pakistan, had tweeted the video with a hashtag #PakistanZindabad. “Pakistan’s Biggest discussion forum on Politics”, states the bio of the Twitter handle. It has been retweeted more than 2,000 times.

A Facebook handle Hindutva Yuva has shared a set of videos of the same person raising pro-Pakistan slogans with the message, “23/59 तिलक नगर 1st फ्लोर से कोई आदमी रोज पाकिस्तान जिंदाबाद के नारे लगाता है आज भी लगा रहा है।अब इसका क्या करना है ।आस पास के भाई लोग आप देखो।(A man from the first floor of 23/59 Tilak Nagar chants pro-Pakistan slogans everyday. Now, people living nearby decide what to do about it -translated)”.

Many other individuals on Facebook and Twitter have shared the video with the same misleading narrative about a man who hurls pro-Pakistan slogans on a daily basis.

What is the Truth?

The man who is seen raising pro-Pakistan slogans in multiple videos has been deemed to be mentally challenged. An report published by India Today on February 28, 2018, stated, “A mentally unstable man was thrashed by some people for allegedly shouting pro-Pakistan slogans in West Delhi’s Tilak Nagar area, police said on Thursday.” The residents of the area had beaten the man for shouting pro-Pak slogans and later handed him over to the police. According to the statement by police officials in the above report, no case has been registered against the man as he has been mentally challenged for the past couple of years. We have reached out to the Delhi police for a statement, but we are still awaiting their response.

In conclusion, videos of a mentally challenged person shouting pro-Pakistan slogans is being shared with varying false or incomplete narratives.
