We performed a reverse image search on one of the stills from the video and found that it was tweeted by journalist Mir Faisal in October 2021. As per his tweet, Hindu organisations took out a rally in Tripura in which anti-Muslim slogans were raised. Faisal wrote, “At least 12 mosques and a dozen Muslim homes have been targeted in the last one week.”

Journalist Ahmer Khan shared this video on October 27, 2021, and similarly wrote, “Anti-Muslim slogans were raised during a rally in Tripura”.

We further performed a keyword search and found the viral video on the YouTube channel of a northeast-based news portal, News Move, uploaded on October 27, 2021.

The description of the video reads, “Protest erupts in Tripura after mosque vandalised, arson at shops and shanties. The incident happened in the Panisagar area of North Tripura on October 26. The arson happened during a VHP rally against attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh. Minorities took out protest rallies in North district headquarters in Dharmanagar. CrPC 144 has been promulgated in Dharmanagar until further notice.”

According to a report in The Wire, anti-Muslim and frenzied slogans were raised during a Vishwa Hindu Parishad rally in Tripura’s Panisagar on October 26, 2021. During the rally, a mosque was vandalised and many houses and shops were attacked. Tripura police had dismissed the attack on a mosque in Panisagar as a rumour, however, Alt News found that the ground reality was different.

To conclude, the viral video is old and has nothing to do with any recent incident in Tripura.
