A video where a woman narrates violent details of domestic violence is viral on social media with a “love Jihad” angle. The message accompanying the video says that the woman used to follow Muslim men on Tik Tok and was trapped by seven such people on the app. She was “secular,” says the message.

Recounting the terrifying ordeal, the woman can be heard saying that her husband came home one day when she was asleep and started beating her up. She said that her mother-in-law was also complicit in the crime. Later in the video, a different clip is played where a man records the woman crying. He says that she was made to drink urine, which was also poured on her face and hair. The man justifies the act by saying that women who are promiscuous after marriage deserve such treatment. On Twitter, this portion of the video has been shared by several users, along with a third clip where the woman can be seen getting treated for her injuries.

The video is massively viral on both Facebook and Twitter with the same claim – “एक और मोहतरमा लव जिहाद में गई। और इनको मारा पीटा गया पेसाब पिलाई गई। ये सेक्युलर थी। और बोलती थी ये बहुत अछे होते है।tik tok पर सभी मुस्लिमों को करती थी fallow वही से इन्हें फँसाया गया। 7 लड़कों ने.”

Video from Pakistan

The video was first posted by Pakistani journalist Iqrar ul Hassan on August 13. According to his tweet, the woman is an Italian-Pakistani.

That same day, Hassan tweeted a copy of an FIR lodged in Darakhshan police station in Karachi against the woman’s husband, Ali Jabir Moti.

The Italian consulate in Karachi took cognisance of the matter and its ambassador tweeted that the woman has been rescued and united with her mother. The abusive husband is at large but the mother-in-law has been arrested.

Soon after the incident was widespread on social media, it was claimed that the abusive husband is the son of terrorist and mobster Dawood Ibrahim’s aide, Jabir Moti. Pakistani politician Irum Azeem Farooque tweeted the same.

Thus, an incident where an Italian-Pakistani woman was abused by her husband in Karachi is viral on Indian social media ecosystem. The false claim suggests that the woman married a Muslim man whom she found on Tik Tok.
