On October 24, All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora arrived at Delhi’s Mandir Marg police station in a Toyota Camry. Bora had been summoned to appear before the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) in connection with proceedings requiring her to furnish a peace bond following her participation in protests in the city, which Bora has denied signing.
Subsequently, several social media users began claiming that she owned the luxury car, questioning how a student could afford a vehicle reportedly worth Rs 60–70 lakh.
An X account, Tejash (@lord_geopolitic), shared an image showing the car’s registration number alongside a photograph of Neha. Calling the AISA president a “communist fraud”, the user questioned how Neha, a PhD student at JNU School of Arts and Aesthetics, could afford such an expensive vehicle and asked Grok about her source of income. The post garnered around 727,100 views and over 600 shares. (Archive)
Neha Bora is a communist fraud and a failed student who doesn’t have a job and only participates in protests, yet she is roaming around in a luxury car worth ₹60–70 lakh.
Hey @Grok, what’s her source of income? 🤔 https://t.co/5iCfUo6juP

Another X user, Monica Verma (@TrulyMonica) posted a video showing the car entering the police station, claiming that “Only in India would unemployed students travel in luxury cars.” The post similarly implied that Neha owned the vehicle. This post amassed around 380,000 views and over 3,000 shares. (Archive)

Several other users circulated similar claims, questioning how Neha could afford to travel in a “luxury” car while being a student and participating in protests. Some posts even insinuated that student protesters were receiving funding from undisclosed sources to “abuse Modi and India”.
A few of the claims are shown in the gallery below:

Alt News contacted Neha to ask about the details of the car. She clarified that the car did not belong to her but is her lawyer Abhik Chimni’s. She further stated that she does not own any vehicle. “I don’t have a car or any form of vehicle of my own. That car belongs to my lawyer Abhik Chimni. He not only has a successful career allowing him to afford a car but is also generous enough to offer to escort me inside the Mandir Marg police station in it,” she said.
“The escorting was necessary because a mob was chanting ‘Neha Bora Murdabad’, ‘Desh Ke gaddaron ko, joote maaron saalon ko’ amongst other slogans outside the police station…The Delhi Police took no steps to disperse the crowd until Abhik specifically mentioned it to the Magistrate and requested him to take measures to handle the hostile and possibly violent atmosphere outside the police station,” Neha told Alt News.
In the video, the number plate is visible and it is: DL12CY3747. Alt News obtained the vehicle’s registration certificate (RC), which identifies the white Toyota Camry hybrid EV with the same number plate as belonging to Neha’s lawyer, Abhik Chimni.

Speaking to Alt News, N Sai Balaji, former AISA president, who accompanied Neha to the Mandir Marg police station on October 24, corroborated her account of the situation outside the station.
According to Balaji, him and Neha initially reached the location in a cab. However, they encountered around 40 people whom he described as Right-wing supporters, allegedly raising slogans against Neha and threatening her safety. He said that Chimni then raised concerns with the police about Neha’s security and requested that the entrance be cleared. The police suggested that Neha enter the premises in a private vehicle, offering to allow a car inside the police station under police escort.
After the incident, Neha took to Instagram to describe the situation, stating that about “50-60” goons had gathered around 100 meters away from the station, allegedly raising threatening slogans against her.

To sum up, the claim that Neha owns a Toyota Camry reportedly worth Rs 60–70 lakh is false and misleading. Neha denied owning any vehicle and the car’s RC identifies her lawyer, Abhik Chimni, as its registered owner.
