Around January 26, several social media users posted a 10-second video clip of women waving swords with the claim that Rajput women stood up against the Muslim women of Shaheen Bagh and Clock Tower.

It is noteworthy that Shaheen Bagh, New Delhi and Clock Tower, Lucknow have been a centre for protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) since the past few weeks.

Twitter user @TheUnitedHindu posted the video and wrote in Hindi, “Rajput women stand up against Muslim women of Shaheen Bagh and Clock Tower. Jai Bhawani, Bharat Mata Ki Jai. [Translated from शाहीन बाग और घंटाघर की मुस्लिम महिलाओं के खिलाफ खड़ी हुई कट्टर हिंदू राजपूताना महिलाएं । जय भवानी, भारत माता की जय]” This video has been shared over 2,000 times

Another user @gulab_dharkar also tweeted the viral video with the same claim, gathering 1,800 retweets.

Similarly, several social media users have shared the viral video on Facebook and Twitter.

Alt News has received several fact-check requests on WhatsApp (+91 76000 11160) and its official mobile application.

Video viral with false claim

Alt News did a keyword search on YouTube and found an August 24, 2019 video by Times of India which reports that 2,000 Rajput women displayed their sword skills and set a world record in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

Using Times of India’s report as a clue, Alt News did a keyword search on Facebook and found that the viral video was uploaded by one Kuldeep Tomar on August 23, 2019. Tomar wrote in his post, “Over 2000 Rajput women display their sword skills and set a world record in Gujarat #RajputanaProud [Translated from #गुजरात मे 2000 से ज्यादा #क्षत्राणियों ने एक साथ तलवार बाजी करके #विश्व_रिकॉर्ड बनाया गुजरात #राजपूत_समाज].”

Therefore, the social media claim that Rajput women stood up against Muslim women at Shaheen Bagh and Clock Tower is false. This viral video is yet another attempt to drive up propaganda against the anti-CAA protests.
