India defeated South Africa in the T20 Cricket World Cup Final by 7 runs at the Kensington Oval in Barbados, West Indies, on June 29.

With South Africa requiring 16 runs off the final over, Suryakumar Yadav took a stunning catch at the long-on boundary to send back David Miller.

In this context, a video is viral on social media that shows a crowd of people expressing their dismay, with the claim that these people, who are Bangladeshi, broke down at India’s World Cup triumph against South Africa. A clip of Suryakumar Yadav taking the catch near the boundary rope is superimposed over the video of the crowd which looks visibly disappointed after the crucial catch is taken.

X user @me_sourish_, whose bio describes him as the ‘Media in Charge’ of Vishva Hindu Parishad, South Bengal, posted the viral video with a caption insinuating that Bangladeshis were aghast at the prospect of India lifting the World Cup. It has amassed more than 95,000 views and has been retweeted around 430 times.

The caption claims that supporters of the Bangladesh Cricket team were expressing their disappointment after Bangladeshi lost the match after their batter Mahmudullah Riyad had been dismissed towards the end of a World Cup match while attempting to hit a six.

Bangladesh lost a match against South Africa just a day prior to the video being posted, on June 10. In the game, Mahmudullah was caught at a crucial juncture, off the penultimate delivery, while attempting to hit a six. Eventually, Bangladesh lost the match by four runs.

We noticed that a number of same faces could be sen in both the videos. See below:

Alt News also noticed similarities in the street lights that can be seen in the backdrop of both these videos. See below:

These evidences point towards the fact that the video used in the viral claim is actually from June 11, showing Bangladeshi supporters reacting to the dismissal of Bangladeshi batsman Mahmudullah Riyad in their World Cup game against South Africa.

The claim across social media that Bangladeshis are seen in the clip upset with India’s win in the T20 World Cup final, is, therefore, false.
