A 44-second video clip purportedly featuring Samir V Kamat, head of the Defence Research and Development Organisation, is being widely circulated on social media, with claims that he is describing unconventional methods used in the Agni-6 ballistic missile programme.
In the clip, Kamat is heard saying, “We are making significant changes to the Agni-6 ballistic missile programme. Prime Minister Modi specifically told us that all missiles should be washed with pavitra cow urine before they are made. First, we soak the missile parts in urine, but they started getting rust. So, now we are using a mixture of cow dung and urine to prevent rust. As you know, cow dung is also anti-bacterial. So, now our missile is uncontaminated. This is the secret ingredient behind the robust Indian missile programme.”
The video has been widely shared by several users on social media, many of whom have pointed to what they describe as a bizarre statement by Samir V Kamat. Below are a few such instances.
Fact Check
To verify the authenticity of the viral clip, we conducted a keyword search to locate the original source of the video. This led us to a full-length panel discussion uploaded on ANI’s YouTube channel as part of its National Security Summit 2.0.
The over one-hour session features Rajesh Kumar Singh, Dr Samir V Kamat, and Ashutosh Dixit. At the 58:39 mark, ANI editor Ajit Kumar Dubey poses a question to the panel: “The audience wants to ask all three of you if India needs a long-range strategic missile like Agni-6? If yes, by when is it coming?”
To this, the DRDO chairman responds, saying, “No comments, this is the government’s decision. We are ready whenever the government gives the go-ahead”.
Throughout the video, there is no mention at any point of using cow urine or dung in any form of “purification” process related to defence materials. The panel discussion remains focused on strategic and technical questions around long-range missile capability, with no reference to such claims.
This indicates that the viral clip has been digitally manipulated, and it is likely to have been generated or altered using artificial intelligence tools.
