YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, who runs the channel ‘BeerBiceps’, is facing backlash over controversial remarks made during an episode of stand-up comedian Samay Raina’s YouTube reality show ‘India’s Got Latent’. The Maharashtra Cyber Cell has registered a case against Allahbadia and others on February 12, while the Guwahati Police also filed an FIR.

Political leaders cutting across party lines, including Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Opposition figures, have condemned him for allegedly misusing his freedom of speech. Following the outrage, Allahbadia issued an apology on February 10. Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women has summoned Allahbadia, Raina, and others for questioning on February 17.

Amid the controversy, a video of Ranveer Allahbadia recording himself crying and saying that his team is having to suffer for him and that all of the work has stopped is viral on social media with claims that the video was uploaded following the controversy. Verified Right-wing X user @SonOfBharat7 tweeted the video and remarked, “You shouldn’t feel bad because the work has stopped… you should feel bad because you ogled at the bed of the mother who gave birth to you”. Another Right-wing influencer on X, @MeghUpdates, also tweeted the video. It is pertinent to note that no direct claim was made by the user. (Archive)

Fact Check

Upon a reverse image search of one of the key frames of the viral video, we found that the clip had been taken from a 2021 video uploaded on Ranveer Allahbadia’s official YouTube channel. The video titled, “This Is NOT Clickbait – My Covid-19 Experience | Vlog 24” is an 8-minute video on Allahbadia announcing that he had tested positive for COVID-19.

The viral clip can be seen from approximately 0:24 of the YouTube video. An emotional Allahbadia says, “Hey guys, I just learned this morning that I tested positive for COVID-19. I feel bad because all our work has stopped. I just feel damn guilty. I exposed the entire team (to the disease). All of the work has stopped because of me. I don’t want to blog all of this, but if I don’t blog then there won’t be any videos to upload. I have to live a lockdown-type life for the next fourteen days. I just want to get better man. I want to work.” The part where he says that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and has to live in quarantine for fourteen days has been edited out in the viral clip.

To sum up, an old video of Ranveer Allahbadia crying in front of the camera is viral on social media as a recent reaction to the ongoing controversy following the YouTuber’s remarks on the comedy show ‘India’s Got Latent’. The video, in reality, is from 2021 and is of him announcing that he has COVID-19.
