A video bearing the ANI logo is going viral on social media, purportedly showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi arriving at an event in a black Range Rover SUV. As the vehicle comes to a halt, a man seated beside the Prime Minister steps out first. Seconds later, Modi exits the SUV, after which Union minister J P Nadda is seen greeting him with a bouquet before the two walk into the building together.

Social media users are claiming that Modi and Nadda travelled to the venue in the same vehicle, arguing that Nadda’s immediate exit with a bouquet exposes the Prime Minister’s ceremonial welcome as staged. Hundreds of users have mocked the video, describing the welcome as a sham.

The video was posted by X handle @DarkKnight_29ca, accompanied by a caption which read, “This is amazing, see a super spectacle in the video, JP Nadda was sitting in the same car, but as soon as the car stopped, he quickly got down from the other side and started pretending to receive Saheb with a bouquet”.

The post has garnered more than 1,500,000 views.

Indian cartoonist Satish Acharya, Dr Ranjan, AAP leader and Kondli MLA Kuldeep Kumar, Samajwadi Party leader IP SinghParmanand Yadav, former national president of Indian Youth Congress Keshav Chand Yadav, along with X users Manish RJBhau (@Bhau_Baliwapis)Abhimanyu SinghMriganka Singh, @WeDravidians@Article19_4 and others shared the video with a similar claim.

Fact Check

To verify the viral claim, Alt News performed reverse image searches with a few frames from the viral video. We found that the same video was uploaded on July 27, 2024, by ANI_HindiNews (@AHindinews) , the official Hindi news handle of news agency Asian News International (ANI). The caption of the post reads, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrives at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi.”

We then tracked down a live video broadcast of the moment shot from a different angle on the official YouTube channel of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which also stated that “Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at the BJP headquarters for a meeting.”

Ten seconds into the video, a man sitting in the car with PM Narendra Modi steps out, carrying some files. Fifteen seconds into the video, the man can be seen; he is wearing a sky-blue shirt and a navy blue jacket. He is clearly not J P Nadda. Then, 20 seconds into the video, Nadda, wearing a white kurta pyjama and a navy blue jacket, arrives to welcome Narendra Modi. This makes it clear that the person sitting with the PM in the video was not J P Nadda but someone else.

Next, we performed an advanced keyword search on X regarding the viral claim that J P Nadda and PM Modi were travelling together in the same vehicle. We found videos uploaded on the official X handles of ANIIANS, and PTI on July 27th. These videos show JP Nadda getting out of a white Scorpio at the BJP headquarters and walking towards the building. These videos clearly indicate that Narendra Modi and Nadda arrived at the BJP headquarters in separate vehicles.

During our investigation, we found another video from July 27, 2024, on ANI’s X handle, showing JP Nadda and Union home minister Amit Shah escorting PM Narendra Modi to his car outside the BJP headquarters. At the same time, the official seen in the viral video exits the BJP headquarters and gets into the PM’s car. Meanwhile, JP Nadda is clearly seen standing outside PM Modi’s car, waving him off. This sequence of events is clearly visible in the following video and screenshots.

In this video, JP Nadda is seen wearing a white kurta pyjama and a navy blue V-neck jacket, while the official in the viral video is wearing a sky blue shirt and a navy blue jacket. The ANI video shows JP Nadda and the official in the viral video at the same time. This makes it clear that the people in the video are two different people. Even when comparing their faces, their facial features do not match at all.

According to several news reports, (News On AirNDTV, and The Week), a meeting was held at the BJP headquarters in Delhi on July 27 and 28, 2024 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi with then-BJP party president J P Nadda, Union home minister Amit Shah, and all the chief ministers and deputy chief ministers of party-ruled states. The meeting focused on analysing the results of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, central and state plans, and strategising for the upcoming assembly elections. This viral video is from that time.

To conculde, the viral video dates back to July 2024, and shows Prime Minister Narendra Modi arriving at the BJP headquarters in Delhi. PM Modi and J P Nadda travelled in separate vehicles. The person seen exiting the PM’s car  in the viral video was not Nadda. Therefore, the claims circulating on social media that Nadda staged a welcome to the Prime Minister is completely false.
