A screenshot of a tweet believed to have been made by US president Joe Biden has been making the rounds on social media. It suggests that Biden called his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi a “world leader”.

From the Facebook page Modi Mantra ಮೋದಿ ಮಂತ್ರ, the post received over 2,500 reactions and more than 450 shares. It was shared with Kannada text ‘ವರ್ಲ್ಡ್ ಲೀಡರ್ ಮೋದಿ’ that translates to ‘World leader Modi’.

It drew another 500 shares from a Facebook page dedicated to BJP spokesperson Santosh Kenchamba.

The postt received hundreds of likes from Facebook pages Narendra modi fans and HDK Worldwide Fans and the group BSY fans of karnataka. The purported tweet is also circulating on Twitter.

Fake tweet

The first clue suggesting that the tweet has not been made by US president Joe Biden is its username. Biden’s official Twitter username is @JoeBiden while the one in the viral screenshot is @JoeBidenPresid.

A quick rummage through Biden’s Twitter handle is further proof that the tweet is fake. He has not quote-tweeted PM Modi’s congratulatory tweet. Moreover, if the tweet was real, it would’ve made the news.

A fake tweet showing US President Joe Biden calling PM Modi “world leader” was therefore shared on social media.
