Fact Check

In the video itself, the ‘presenter’ says that the crowd is on its way to participate in an Ijtema.

We did a a simple reverse image search with some key frames from the viral video and found that a content creator called Dip Ghosh had uploaded the same video from his Instagram handle ‘youtuberdip‘ on January 5, 2026. The caption says: ‘Biswa Ijtema 2026 Insane crowd’.

At the 17-second mark, he says, “The Bishwa Ijtema is taking place in our area, where Muslims from all across the world have come to participate.”

Through a keyword search, we were able to verify the fact that a global Ijtema or Bishwa Ijtema, a religious congregation of Muslims from the Indian sub continent, was held in Hooghly district’s Dhanekhali assembly constituency area from January 2 to 5, 2026. The four-day gathering was occurring after a 34-year gap in the region.

Bengali daily Anandabazaar Patrika covered the event. The report, published on January 2, can be read here. Another report by Ei Samay can be read here. Both the stories mentioned the mammoth size of the gathering at the religious meet.

To sum up, a video related to a Muslim religious congregation from January is being falsely shared as illegal immigrants leaving Bengal after BJP’s win.
