After now-suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s controversial remarks against Prophet Mohammad, the Muslim community carried out protests in several parts of the country. Hindu organisations, in response, took out counter-protests in support of Nupur Sharma in Delhi, Hajipur in Bihar, Arra, and Rohtas.

Against this backdrop, a video of a rally has been widely shared on social media. In the video, a crowd of youth is raising slogans with saffron flags in their hands. It is being claimed that Hindus took out a rally in Jammu in support of Nupur Sharma. (Archive link)

Twitter user Jalpa Baraiya made a similar claim while tweeting the video. (Archive link)

BJP supporter Suryakanta Das posted this video on a Facebook group named ‘Odisha with BJP’ and made the same claim.

This video is viral on Facebook and Twitter with the same claim.

Fact-check

Alt News performed a reverse image search of a frame from the video along with relevant keywords. We found the same video posted on a Facebook page named ‘RSS NOIDA’ on April 18, 2022. The page states the video shows a Shobha Yatra organised on the occasion of Hanuman Janma Utsav and Shri Ram Navami.

Based on this information, we performed another keyword search on Facebook. A video recorded from another angle of the same rally was found on the Facebook page ‘Vishva Hindu Parishad – VHP Noida.’ The caption claimed that the video was shot in Noida.

Upon a closer look, we noticed some landmarks in both videos. Searching on Google Maps, we found a video that confirms that the viral video was recorded from the foot overbridge near Botanical Garden metro in Noida.

Thus, the video is not from Jammu but Noida. It was falsely claimed that a procession was taken out in support of now-suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma in Jammu. But this video has been present on the Internet since April, while Nupur Sharma’s controversial remark about Prophet Mohammed was made in May end.
