In the view of the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) in Assam, a video of policemen purportedly firing at a crowd of people is being shared on WhatsApp.

Alt News has received several verification requests for the video on its official mobile application.

OLD JHARKHAND MOCK DRILL VIDEO

This video has been fact-checked by Alt News several times in the past. It is an old clip of a mock drill conducted by Khunti, Jharkhand police. A reverse-search of one of its keyframes led us to the same video uploaded on November 1, 2017, on YouTube.

Alt News had spoken to the owner of a shop – “Jagdamba steel” – visible in the background who confirmed that a mock drill was conducted in the area on October 31, 2017.

This video was earlier shared with varied false claims:

  1. Police firing at farmers in Mandsaur.
  2. 30 Kashmiris shot dead by the police.
  3. Police firing at students in Bihar opposing privatisation of Indian railways.
  4. Armed forces shooting down Kashmiris.

An old video of a mock drill in Jharkhand is thus being shared in the context of CAB protests in Assam.
