Old video of BJP members shared as AAP’s Sanjay Singh thrashed AAP MLA with shoes

A video has gone viral with the claim that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh thrashed an AAP MLA with shoes at a party meeting.

Facebook user Lalit Mohan Sharma had shared the viral video on March 2, 2020, gaining over 48,000 views.

Twitter user @sdtiwari had also tweeted (archive link) the viral video last year, taking a jibe at AAP by saying,  “Free entertainment for the freebie lovers.”

Fact-check

Performing a keyword search on Google, Alt News found a report by The Indian Express from March 6, 2019.  According to the report, the incident took place between two BJP leaders during a meeting to review development projects in UP’s Sant Kabir Nagar district.

The report said, “BJP MP Sharad Tripathi and Rakesh Baghel, one of the MLAs from the district, were involved in a scuffle after Tripathi asked why his name was not included on the foundation stone for a local road and Baghel said it was his decision.”

Hindustan Times had uploaded a 55-second video that shows the scuffle.

The viral video is being shared with the false claim that an AAP leader beat up another member of his party with shoes. However, the video pertains to a 2019 incident involving BJP leaders.
