A video in which a teacher is seen thrashing a student with a stick is doing the rounds on social media. Terming it as a recent incident, users called for the teacher’s arrest.

Incident from Patna; Accused Teacher Arrested

A keyword search led us to a Dainik Jagran story covering the incident. According to this report, the teacher beat up a student in Patna’s Dhanarua until he fell unconscious on July 2, 2022. The student had to be admitted to a hospital for his injuries. The teacher identified as Chhotu Sir was talking to a student in the class when the six-year-old victim, Dilkush, went to his class to inform him that he had completed his work. Angered by the disturbance in the conversation, the teacher thrashed the minor student fiercely. The accused worked at Jaya Public School in Oiyara in Dhanarua police station area of Patna. He also used to run a coaching centre in this school.

According to the report, following the video of the violence going viral, an FIR was lodged against the teacher and he was initially absconding. Police later arrested him from Telhada police station area of Nalanda district where he had taken shelter in his uncle Manoj Kumar’s house.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the Patna Police said that a teacher from Jaya Public School in Oiyara area was taken into custody for brutally thrashing a five year old student. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has also registered a separate case against the teacher under Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act.

To sum it up, this one-year-old video is actually from the Dhanarua area of Patna and the accused teacher was arrested following the incident in July 2022.
