A video of men being publically executed by masked men is circulating on social media. As per the claim, the Taliban is executing members of the Afghanistan military. Alt News has not attached or hyperlinked the video in this report due to its graphic nature.

We received multiple requests to verify this video on WhatsApp helpline number (76000 11160 and on Alt News mobile application (Android, iOS).

Some users have shared the identical claim in Hindi on WhatsApp. It warns people that they are safe until Yogi-Modi are in power. It also advises against raising “useless issues” such as the price of onions and fuel and prevent future generations from finding themselves in a “similar situation”.

Alt News performed a reverse image search on Google and found a 2014 report by NBC12. The US-based news outlet stated that the video shows executions by the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). As per the report, the 10 men kneeling on the ground were militiamen.

This video was shared on Facebook. Despite multiple requests to remove the video, Facebook refused to do so and responded, “We reviewed the video you reported for containing graphic violence and found it doesn’t violate our Community Standards.”

In 2014, Human Rights Watch reported, “Islamic State systematically executed some 600 male inmates from a prison outside the northern Iraqi city of Mosul on June 10, 2014.” Those interested in reading about brutal incidents by ISIS can visit here.

To sum it up, a 2014 video showing public execution by ISIS was shared as a recent video from Afghanistan in the backdrop the Taliban taking over the country.
