On October 20, India and Pakistan traded fire in the Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district in North Kashmir. “Both sides say they retaliated only after the other violated a ceasefire in place since 2003, allegedly killing civilians and soldiers on both sides,” reported BBC.

In the backdrop of the recent skirmish, Pakistani social media users have shared a video claiming that it depicts the Indian army waving a white flag to collect the dead bodies of their soldiers. “#IndianArmy hoists white flag to collect the dead bodies of their soldiers who were killed by the Pakistan Army at the Line of Control clashes” tweeted one such individual attracting nearly 70,000 views and over 1,200 retweets.

A Pakistani user on Facebook wrote, “Indian Army struggling to pick dead bodies and evacuate injured soldiers. Indian Army raising white flag”

DG ISPR Says: Indian Army struggling to pick dead bodies and evacuate injured soldiers. Indian Army raising white flag. This they should think before initiating unprovoked CFVs and respect military norms by avoiding to target innocent civilians.

OLD VIDEO

A keyword search on YouTube – ‘white flag army’ reveals that the video is at least one month old. A September 11, 2019, broadcast by Hindustan Times says, “Pakistan Army shows white flag, retrieves bodies of soldiers killed in cross border firing.”

The video was uploaded by several Indian news outlets.

An old video, reportedly of the Pakistani army raising a white flag at LoC to retrieve the slain bodies of two of their soldiers, was shared as the opposite by Pakistani social media users.
