Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 was flagged off on July 23 after a year’s delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Shortly after, several social media users posted a video of people performing the Surya Namaskar and claimed the event was held at the Olympics.

Facebook page fan page of The Art of Living in Macedonia shared this video.

Alt News has received multiple verification requests for the video on our WhatsApp helpline (76000 11160) and our mobile application (Android, iOS).

Video from 2015

The video is from a 2015 yoga event organised by ‘Art of Living’ in Mongolia. It was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In fact, the video is also uploaded on his YouTube channel. The viral portion begins from the 5:30 mark.

As per the Ministry of External Affairs, Mongolian PM Chimediin Saikhanbileg invited PM Modi for a State visit from May 16 to 18 in 2015. The two countries discussed partnership on various fronts including political, military, health and culture.

The Art of Living also tweeted about this event in 2015.

To conclude, a 2015 video of Surya Namaskar at a yoga event in Mongolia has been circulating on social media with the false claim that it is from the ongoing Olympics in Japan.
