A 17-second video clip showing an enormous, visibly enthusiastic crowd waving Indian flags along with saffron flags, accompanied by a Hindutva-themed pop song in the background, is widely circulated on social media. It is claimed that the footage captures public celebrations in West Bengal, allegedly after the fall of Mamata Banerjee’s government.
NDTV senior executive editor, Aditya Raj Kaul, shared the video, claiming it showed celebrations in West Bengal by BJP supporters. (Archive)

Fact Check
A reverse image search on a few keyframes led us to an Instagram post by India Today dated March 9, 2026. The post featured images of nationwide celebrations following India’s T20 World Cup victory the previous day. One of the photos is from Prayagraj. We found that the viral video shows the same scene as depicted in this photo.
Check the comparisons below:

Taking hints from our initial findings, we conducted a keyword search that led us to a 4-minute video on YouTube, uploaded by a channel named Mini Singh. The video caption indicates that it showcases the celebration of India’s T20 World Cup victory in Loknath, Prayagraj, describing it as “the wildest celebrations in India.”
We noticed the same circular frame suspended in the sky that appears in the viral video. Additionally, we identified a political banner in the background that also matches the one seen in the video.

To corroborate further, we located the Baba Lokenath Dwar in Prayagraj, which is visible in the YouTube video, and Suman Ornaments which is visible in the viral video. This two are opposite to each other.

Finally, we located a video uploaded on Instagram on March 9, where both the celebrating crowd and the Suman Oranments signage are visible. The caption says प्रयागराज में बना तगड़ा माहौल.

This conclusively proves that the viral video has no connection to West Bengal or its electoral outcome. It is approximately two months old and captures celebrations in Prayagraj following India’s Men’s T20 World Cup victory. The claim that it depicts public reaction to political developments in West Bengal is false.
