Viral Video: Claim that President of India was mistreated at an IAS officer’s daughter’s wedding is false

“An IAS officer in PMO’s office at Delhi Mr. Somanathan’s daughter’s wedding. Keep an eye on the President of India. Please see what kind of treatment President of India is getting.” A video is currently viral with the aforementioned text. PM Modi was in Chennai on November 5th, 2017, to attend the 75 years celebration of the Tamil Newspaper ‘Daily Thanthi’. After this event, PM attended the wedding of daughter of IAS officer TV Somanathan who is posted in the PMO currently.

A video of PM Modi attending this marriage is now viral on social media. In this video, PM can be seen wishing the couple and then accepting a gift and posing for some photographs. Another guest is also seen alongside PM Modi in the same video, posing for photographs and wishing the couple. It is now being claimed that this other guest is the President of India Ram Nath Kovind and that he was mistreated.

In the grainy video above, the other guest who is seen along with PM Modi has been mistaken to be the President of India. The other guest is actually Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit. The TN Governor had welcomed PM Modi on his arrival at Chennai and later accompanied him to various events that PM Modi attended.

One must always be careful when sharing low resolution videos and images. Since this is the election season, the rumour mills across various political parties are over active and one must be extra careful before circulating unverified claims.
