A video of women thrashing a man is being shared on social media with the claim that the man is BJP leader ‘Anil Upadhyay’. One Jaan Mohd Tyagi shared a Facebook ‘watch party’ on January 31 and said in Hindi, “Women thrash BJP leader Anil Upadhyay. Let’s make him famous [Translated from बीजेपी नेता अनिल उपाध्याय जी को महिलाओं मिलकर कुट दिया। थोड़ा इनको फेमस कर दीजिए।].” This has been shared over 90,000 times.
Similarly, Twitter user @AudaciousQuest tweeted the viral video and said, “BJP MLA Anil Upadhyay is getting thrashed by a group of angry women. If this is BJP’s present, imagine what the future is going to be. This is what this govt is scared of.”

Alt News took a thumbnail from the viral video and did a reverse image search on Google. On the first page, we found links to several Twitter profiles that had shared the viral video.
After reviewing multiple profiles, Alt News found a tweet by @DineshmishraRm on @Abhishekchilm1’s timeline.
@DineshmishraRm tweeted, “Disgusting behaviour by Manoj Dubey. The primary school teacher of Bankat, Muradabadshahpur, Jaunpur did perverted things with students of the fifth standard. As a result, the women from the village thrashed him. This not just puts the education system to shame but also humanity as well. [Translated from एक शिक्षक का घिनौना कुकर्म. प्रा0वि0बनकट मुगराबादशाहपुर जौनपुर के मनोज दुबे कक्षा 5 के छात्रा के साथ अश्लील हरकत किया जिससे गाँव की महिलाओं ने जमकर धुलाई की यह न बल्कि शिक्षा मंदिर औरअपितु मानवता को शर्मसार करने वाली घटना है @yadavakhilesh @NareshUttamSP @SpArajesh @BrajeshYadavSP]”
Using this as a clue, Alt News did another keyword search and found a report by Public Akrosh on January 24. According to the report, Additional Superintendent of Police informed that Manoj Kumar Dubey, a teacher at Rajjupur Primary School, Bankat was arrested by the Pawara Police Station for indecent behaviour with two girls.
Jaunpur Police had tweeted about the incident on January 24. The tweet shared the video byte of the ASP. “Jaunpur, Byte of Additional Superintendent of Police, Pawara Police Station on the matter of indecent behaviour towards two girls by the teacher of primary school in Bankat. [Translated from जौनपुर~थाना पवारा अन्तर्गत प्रथामिक विद्यालय बनकट के अध्यापक द्वारा दो बच्चियों के साथ अभद्रता की घटना के सम्बन्ध में अपर पुलिस अधीक्षक ग्रामीण की बाईट।],” reads the tweet.

In the video, ASP Sanjay Rai said, “We have been informed that a primary school teacher misbehaved with two young girls. Their father filed the complaint and subsequently, the teacher in question in under custody. After interrogation by witnesses, further investigation will take place.”
Therefore, a video of women thrashing a primary school teacher for allegedly misbehaving with girls is used to target the BJP.
ANIL UPADHYAY IS A FICTIONAL POLITICIAN
‘Anil Upadhyay’ is a recurring name used to propagate misinformation to target different political parties. However, no such MLA exists in any state assembly or the parliament, according to MyNeta database. The name crops up on social media sometimes as a BJP MLA, and sometimes as a Congress MLA. Posted below is a screenshot of the search result on MyNeta website.
